We are pleased to annouce the exhibition “Twelve love poems and a song of despair(*)” by Michael WHITTLE and Sangsun BAE. In Kyoto, they got acquainted, built a family, respect each other as artist, and work hard together. In this exhibition, we show 13 collaboration artworks which Michael and Sangsun have kept making for several years, likening the works to poems by Pablo NERUDA who is one of the most influential poet in the 20th century. With Pablo’s fertile imagination as a start, all the works shows the chemistry by the combnation with Michael’s delicate drawing and Sangsun’s bold brushwork .

Michael Whittle was born in the United Kingdom in 1976. He earned his Master of Arts in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2005 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry - Biomedicine at Bradford University in the United Kingdom.His work has been collected by the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (New York) , Kyoto University, Royal College of Art, and so on. His works are influenced by inorganic signs and symbols, and they are converted to poetic and organic styles by his imagination and sensitive brush marks.
Bae Sangsun was born in Korea. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Sungkyunkwan University (Korea) in 1997, and earned a Master of Arts in Fine Art at Musashino Art University in 2002. Bae was a doctoral student in the Oil painting department at Kyoto University of Art from 2005-2008. Her artwork was selected twice for the VOCA exhibition, in 2005 and 2008 and has been collected by the National Museum of Contemporary Art " Art Bank" (Seoul), the Akino Fuku Museum, The Ujong Museum and so on.
