I want to have a good grasp of the world.” Tomoko Takagi has thought about it since her childhood, and tried not to understand the whole aspect but observed the fragments closely as the part of it.

Tomoko piles on pigments on canvas to understand what she discovers in daily life and finds a feeling of wrongness inside of it as motif of painting. Tomoko’s style that she comes and goes between figures and objects would be interpret as the attitude that she tried to confirm what she doesn’t understand.

In recent years, Tomoko focuses on scenery built by another person, for example, objects she found at the store or sculptures in a museum. This is her first solo exhibition at COHJU contemporary art and we showcase Tomoko’s new paintings with her recent perspective and insight of a view of the world.
