Shinya Azuma, Mio Yamato, and Yuto Yonemura from COHJU will participate in the charity project “CHOCOPEN Project,” organized by the specified nonprofit organization CLOUDY and DOYA Inc., with support from Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd.
The “CHOCOPEN Project” is an initiative to collect discarded cacao shells in Ghana, Africa, and upcycle them into pencils. Through this project, the aim is to generate local employment, transfer technical skills, and reduce waste in Ghana.
In conjunction with this initiative, an exhibition titled “Trash, Pencils, and Art” will be held for a limited 10-day period starting Friday, May 2, at UNKNOWN HARAJUKU in Harajuku, Tokyo.
Thirty contemporary artists, including Azuma, Yamato, and Yonemura, will exhibit and sell artworks created using pencils made from cacao shells. A portion of the proceeds will go toward supporting educational opportunities for children in Ghana. Additionally, for every pencil purchased at the venue, the same number of pencils will be donated to children in Africa.
We warmly encourage you to take part in this project and experience a unique form of international support through art.
