Hidekazu Tanaka is a Japanese painter who has challenged himself to expand the possibility of abstract paintings.
In his recent work, Tanaka has focused in particular on attempts to embed the concept of time onto the canvas, such as the Cloud Painting series, which deconstructs and reconstructs the “lines” extracted from drawings by historical painters like Picasso, or works that allow each element to be freely moved using magnets. While introducing philosophical thinking into painting, Tanaka’s colorful and playful works are also characterized by their straightforward visual delight.
Hidekazu Tanaka was born in Hyogo in 1979 and currently lives and based in Kyoto Japan. Currently, he has acquired a Ph.D. at Kyoto City University of Arts.
Tanaka's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Japan and also is in the collections of Jean Pigozzi collection, Obayashi Foundation collection and Takahashi collection.
