Tomoko Takagi is obsessed with weird things she finds on the street and paints them with a unique style and distinctive taste of colors. The material she uses, which is a mixture of oil and alkyd resin, appears transparent and fairly vivid but gets dry quickly. Because of this, she can't depict the outline of each object correctly and carefully. As a result, the images gradually diverge from the objects as they originally appeared, however, she feels that this process brings her closer to them. For Takagi, painting is a process to understand what makes her feel 'weird' and build a relationship with them.
Tomoko Takagi was born in Chiba in 1989 and currently lives and based in Shiga, Japan. Sa She received an M.F.A in Painting from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015.
Takagi's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Japan and Taiwan, also is in a number of the private collections internationally.
