Bottle Mail on the Roadside: Kanna Takase・Miyako Tengyu

3 February - 3 March 2024

COHJU is pleased to present "Bottle Mail on the Roadside," a two-person exhibition by Kansai-based artists, Miyako Tengyu and Kanna Takase, from February 3 to March 3, 2024.

Miyako Tengyu was born in Osaka in 1989 and completed her MFA at Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015. Born to parents who run an antique bookstore, Tengyu grew up surrounded by books from an early age, and continues to present works that apply the magic of printing and stories using materials familiar to people, such as cloth and leather, in order to close the distance between the viewer and the story inhabited within the work.

Kanna Takase was born in Osaka in 1994, received her MFA from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2020, and is currently based in Kyoto. She verbalizes and leaves notes of things and events that interest her in her daily life, and creates works based on these keywords. Takase transforms the obstacles, pain and nervousness in daily communication with people into the pop motifs of animals and plants depicted on the screen, creating a unique story with gaps in it.

This exhibition focuses on the close relationship between the two artists and the "word," which is a common element in their creative backgrounds, and presents a series of works created by relying on keywords provided by both artists.
