Tristes Constellation: Miyako Tengyu Solo Exhibition

30 March - 4 May 2019

COHJU contemporary art will have Miyako Tengyu solo exhibition Tristes Constellation from 30 March 2019.

Tengyu has received M.F.A in Textile from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015. She is one of the original member to build an artists' studio PUNTO, and has exhibited and curated several shows with other members.

Tengyu grew up surrounded by tons of all kind of books in a secondhand bookshop run by her parents and has been attracted to the magic of the printed word and applied that power to her artistic practice. Inspired by myths and histories, she combines them into her own original sequences of a story for her artworks. Especially she uses fabrics and leathers which has more crafty texture than the paintings on canvas so that her own stories comes into us softly and lifelike.

For this exhibition, Tengyu will show new works based on tragedic folklores and myths about the star. She says "Since the ancient era, people have compare the stars to animals and gods. We've made astronomical observations and many things happend to be invented with it. I could say the origin or history of the constellation has a high affinity with my fundamental concept".

Please visit us and see her new works of installation storytelling about the stars.
